Mr. D and I at 90

This is Mr D and I when we get to be 90

Welcome Spring

Well, today IS supposed to be the first day of spring.  Not that I'm complaining... I've done enough of that already.  These are from our home this morning...
car was parked here midway through storm

the green house... looks ready for planting ?!

our hobbit home

Joanna made it up the driveway before the storm
and these are her tracks from when she left for work at 6 am

in front of the house

the chickens are all snug in their coop

the back of our hobbit home... notice the trash can... that's this storm

Joanna's hobbit home

the mobile home and well house... much of this is from snow coming off the roof
My friend from MD says it's pretty, and it is, I just have a hard time getting excited about that today.

I'll try to post some more this afternoon...

Late Winter Snow

Well, we're walking the driveway again.  Norman has been sick with the flu for a couple days and today Joanna packed him out so she could go to work.  I didn't see her leave... must have been in the shower when she went out, but I could see her tracks down the driveway.  It took me a while to get the ice off...  actually just to get the car door open as it rained a while yesterday before the temp dropped to below zero.  Everything was frozen.  The ride in this morning took twice as long, but arrived in one piece.  Thank you Lord!  I didn't take any pictures 'cause my camera was in the car overnight and was too cold this morning, but I'll post a few from the local news photo site "U Local"
THESE ARE NOT MY PHOTOS!!!

we've been seeing Robins here for the past month... can't imagine there's much to eat

we've been seeing Voles all around this winter, unlike other years
I think they have either run out of food, or their den's filled up with water/ice during one of
our many winter storm
it's been soooo cold all winter I'm not sure how deep the frost has gone

because of the great variations in temperature they have been able to do a bit of tapping, but no sap today... way too cold

Winter IS beautiful.  I don't think, even though this winter has been bad, that I'd like living where we don't have the beautiful change in seasons.  I complain more than I should.  I really am thankful for my home and even the cold weather...  it may reduce the flea and tick populations and give our moose a break.  We've lost many moose to ticks in the past few years.  We would see moose along the road quite often, but the frequency has dropped significantly and we hear from the biologists that the reduction in moose population is due to the increase in ticks.  We had a bad breakout of fleas on all our animals a couple years ago.  It was very bad.  We lost our cat and the dog was completely infested.  We found that "Frontline" was the only thing that worked, so here's an unsolicited ad for "Frontline" flea and tick drops...

Great stuff.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

Hodge Podge Wednesday

Link up with Hodge Podge at "From This Side of the Pond" http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/

1. Do you have an interest in learning about your family's heritage? Why or why not? If you know a little bit about your roots, share an interesting piece of trivia or a fun fact about someone who goes way back on your family tree.

I do like to find out fun things about my family.  Quite a few years ago I found out from my Aunt Jean that we were related by marriage to Karl Marx.  Not sure if that is something to brag about, but it is interesting.

2. Branch Rickey, the baseball exec credited with signing Jackie Robinson, is quoted as saying-

"Luck is the residue of design."

Agree or disagree? Why?

I don't believe there is such a thing as "luck".  I truely believe our times are mapped out by God.  We may wriggle out from His perfect will, but he still is in control.  So I cannot agree.

3. In the town where you currently reside, what's your favorite green space?

In my town there are many beautiful places.  I like my own back yard best...

Our backyard in spring Lupines

4. Who is your favorite comedian?  I think my all time favorite is Dick Van Dyke.  He just makes me laugh and I loved all the old movies he was in.

5. March is National Nutrition Month, and almost everyone needs to improve their diet in some way. What about you? How can you improve your nutrition on a daily basis? Will you try?

Best thing I could do is just eat less and make sure to eat breakfast.  I sometimes get busy in the morning and just don't have time which make me want to "graze" all day.

6. Which of these green expressions have you 'experienced' in recent weeks -green with envy, green thumb, green around the gills, or give the green light? Explain.

I can't say that I've experienced a green thumb, but I hope to soon use my "green thumb" and plants some veggies and pray for good weather and that God would allow them to grow and prosper.  I didn't keep up as well as I should have with the garden last year and we lost quite a bit to powdery mildew and things were planted together way too close, so that will change this year as well.  Looking forward to spring in the midst of a snow storm.

7. Where is one place you don't mind waiting?
Anywhere I can do come cross stitch while I'm waiting is a good place to wait.  At least I'm accomplishing something.

8. Insert your own random thought here.   Today March 12th we are getting a "spring blizzard"  they expect 12-20 inches Wednesday to Thursday.  Hmmmm... and then it's supposed to be cold again.  I just have to think of the warmer days ahead, the garden, fresh strawberries from the garden sweet and warm... it will come eventually...  Here's a few green pictures to encourage us all....

I see Peonies in the background, so this must have been in June sometime.

he was sooo hot that day... look at those rosy cheeks

Saw this one on FB and just had to share it here :)  We don't do Lent, but lot of people here at work have been talking about it, so I suggested they take this little bit of advice.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
